John Coltrane was born on September 23, 1926, and would have turned one hundred this year. Coltrane 100 is how Kissa Kissa, the Japanese-style jazz vinyl listening bar at 667 Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, marks it: twenty-one nights from September 2nd to December 9th, 2026, most of them on the anniversary of the record being played. Each record goes on the house system and plays front to back.

Every night is free and open to the public. No cover, no ticket.

What’s on the turntable

The series follows Coltrane across his records: sideman sides with the Miles Davis Quintet, Blue Train, the Atlantic sessions from Rhino’s 1960–1964 Mono box, Giant Steps in full, the four 1961 Village Vanguard nights, Live at Birdland, A Love Supreme live in Seattle and in the studio, and Meditations. Alice Coltrane gets her own night with Journey in Satchidananda.

Two nights are advance listens: the Verve Acoustic Sounds reissue of Live at Birdland on November 18th, two days before street date, and the Tiberi Tapes, live recordings made by saxophonist Frank Tiberi in Philadelphia and New York clubs in the early 1960s. On October 2nd, release day for Rhino’s six-LP Coltrane 100: Selections from 1951–1967, the box plays alongside A Love Supreme, Live in Seattle.
