Hear Chasin’ The Trane: Copenhagen 1962, John Coltrane’s Verve Record Club exclusive, as an early listen on Tuesday, October 27th, 2026, at 7:00 PM. It is a free Coltrane 100 night at Kissa Kissa, the Japanese-style jazz vinyl listening bar at 667 Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

The record catches the classic quartet in Copenhagen in 1962: Coltrane with McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. The set runs from the title tune and “Impressions” to the ballad “I Want to Talk About You.” Verve is sending us an advance copy of the Record Club pressing, so we can play it front to back on the house system before most people hear it.
Where the tune comes from
Coltrane first recorded “Chasin’ the Trane” at the Village Vanguard on November 2nd, 1961: sixteen minutes of blues, with the piano laying out. Impulse! released it in 1962, and it took up the whole second side of “Live” at the Village Vanguard. Then, six nights after this listen, our Village Vanguard run reaches night two, the night he cut it.
Why Chasin’ The Trane gets this Tuesday
At first, we held this night for the Live at Birdland advance listen. However, that reissue now arrives on November 20th, so Live at Birdland plays on November 18th for “Alabama” at 63, and Chasin’ The Trane takes the Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Verve Record Club itself is on Verve’s store.
