Listening afternoon
From 3:00 PM · Kissa Kissa, 667 Franklin Avenue, Crown Heights
Miles ’56 at 70: the 1956 Prestige sessions, played in order
In 1956 Miles Davis took his quintet — John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones — to Rudy Van Gelder’s studio in Hackensack for two marathon days and cut enough for four Prestige albums. Craft Recordings’ four-LP box Miles ’56: The Prestige Recordings puts both days back in session order, opening with a March date with Sonny Rollins.
We play all eight sides, start to finish, on the house system.
Free and open to the public. No cover, no ticket.
