Kissa Kissa is closed for a private event on Saturday, September 21st. We regret the inconvenience, friends.
All events listed below are free to attend.
We encourage calling/texting to reserve your seat: 347-507-9090.
Join us at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 18th for a bar takeover courtesy of Norden Aquavit.
This free event includes tastings of exclusive and limited aquavit varieties, expert info on the spirit, and one-night-only specialty cocktails utilizing Norden’s unique flavors. To set the mood, we’ll be spinning jazz recorded in Scandinavia or by Scandinavian artists all night long in honor of aquavit’s historical roots.
For three nights from Tuesday, September 24th through Thursday, September 26th, we’re highlighting an outstanding series of three, double-LP volumes by the Erich Kleinschuster 6tet recorded during different sessions between 1968-1971.
Recently released by the UK’s Wallen Bink Records, the recordings in this series – many only recently discovered and presented for their first time on these vinyl editions – provide an illuminating and long overdue testament to one of the unsung forces of jazz in Europe during this period.
Erich Kleinschuster’s projects and initiatives played a vital role in establishing a spiritual home for jazz in Vienna. The founding of his sextet in 1966 and, in 1968, a jazz department at the Vienna Conservatory, were catalysts for a scene that attracted international stars as well as nurturing the careers of home-grown virtuosos.
For our audiophile friends, these LPs feature All Analogue AAA mastering transferred from the original ORF 15IPS studio mastertapes with lacquers cut at Abbey Road Studios by Grammy award winning engineer, Sean Magee. This series is limited to 1,000 copies globally and hearing it over the Kissa Kissa speakers is a true treat for jazz lovers.
In addition to featuring these recordings, each evening’s playlist will be curated to feature the artists who join Kleinschuster on these respective dates, including Clifford Jordan, Charles Tolliver, Joe Henderson, Dusko Goykovich, Carmell Jones, Slide Hampton, and Art Farmer.
On Friday, September 27th, complement your drinks with a very special, one-night-only pop-up featuring the culinary creations of Chef Alex Lazo. Chef Lazo will be offering up Peruvian classics like fresh ceviche and other treats while special guest selector Christian Storm returns to helm the Kissa Kissa turntable.
